We are a friendly group of volunteers from the SESKU ( South Elmsall, South Kirkby & Upton) and nearby surrounding areas, offering a supportive network to all those people living with diabetes, which includes adults, teenagers, children and their families and friends.

As a group we welcome you to our website and hope that you will attend one of our Meetings, where you will get the opportunity to Listen to Diabetes Related Talks and Presentations, by Healthcare Professionals and/or Group Volunteers, Talk to other members of the group, Ask Questions and Share Experiences with others that are living with diabetes; you can even Help Out if you want to.

The South Elmsall, South Kirkby & Upton SESKU Diabetes UK Voluntary Group in south Kirkby, Pontefract has been set up for anyone who is affected by diabetes, whether it be you who is a diabetic, someone you live with, a family member or a friend, or even if you just want to learn more about diabetes and diabetics. Type 2 Diabetes Risk: Are you at risk? Test yourself to see if you are at risk of type 2 diabetes. This includes Type 1 diabetes, Type 2 diabetes also known as adult onset diabetes, gestational diabetes and MODY. In South Elmsall, South Kirkby & Upton there are people living with Diabetes insipidus and Diabetes mellitus. There are more type 2 diabetics than any other kind. Diabetes is the fastest growing endocrine disease in the world; it affects the endocrine gland. Type 2 diabetes can be caused by being overweight, or obese; the Body Mass Index (BMI) can be used as a measure for this. High blood pressure, high blood sugar (glucose) and high cholesterol is bad for you. Tests such as blood sugar tests are required. Diabetics often suffer from either hyperglycemia or hypoglycemia causing hyperglycemic hypoglycemic (hypos) attacks. Diabetes causes other medical problems such as background retinopathy and ketoacidosis, too many keytones in the blood.
